TEACHER'S MANUAL

THE LIBRARY EXPERIENCE: SHARING THE RESPONSIBILITY is a process-oriented textbook designed to teach middle school or junior high school students information skills relevant to their school work across the disciplines. Rather than offering students disembodied lessons on discrete location skills, THE LIBRARY EXPERIENCE provides students with a purposeful context in which essential skills in locating and using information effectively can be taught.

Each chapter in the textbook focuses on a step in the information-seeking process; chapter-by-chapter, students are introduced to library resources that will help them accomplish each step of the process. In this context, the library media specialist and the classroom teacher work together to help students analyze their informational needs, to locate potentially useful resources, to evaluate and organize the information they collect, and to evaluate the projects the students ultimately produce.
